25Gbps 850nm Multimode SFP28 Active Optical Cable
Active Optical Cable (AOC) is a cabling technology that accepts same electrical inputs as a traditional copper cable, but uses optical fiber between the connectors . AOC uses electrical-to-optical conversion on the cable ends to improve speed and distance performance of the cable without sacrificing compatibility with standard electrical interfaces. ARTIC Technology SFP28 Active Optical Cables are direct-attach fiber assemblies with SFP28 connectors. They are suitable for very short distances and offer a cost-effective way to connect within racks and across adjacent racks. This 25Gbps 850nm Multimode SFP28 Active Optical Cable is a single-Channel, Pluggable, Fiber-Optic SFP28 for 25 Gigabit Ethernet and Infiniband EDR Applications. It is a high performance module for short-range data communication and interconnect applications which operate at 25.78125 Gbps up to 70 m using OM3 fiber or 100 m using OM4 fiber. This module is designed to operate over multimode fiber systems using a nominal wavelength of 850nm. The electrical interface uses a 20 contact edge type connector. Talk to us

✅ Maximum link length of 70m on OM3 MMF and 100m on OM4 MMF;
✅ 850nm VCSEL laser and PIN photo-detector;
✅ Holder with guiding (air-/water-cooled);
✅ Internal CDR on both Transmitter and Receiver channel;
✅ Single 3.3V power supply;
✅ Power dissipation < 1W;
✅ Digital diagnostics functions are available via the I2C interface;
✅ RoHS-6 compliant;
✅ Commercial case temperature range: 0°C to 70°C.
✅ Single 3.3V power supply;
✅ Simplicity & Reliability: It's one solid unit. There are no separate optical modules or loose fiber patch cables to connect, which eliminates dirty connectors and alignment issues, a common source of failure.
✅ Lower Power Consumption: AOCs typically consume significantly less power (often less than half) than using a separate transceiver and fiber cable solution.
✅ Cost-Effective for Short Runs: For distances under 100 meters, AOCs are often cheaper than buying two separate SFP28 transceivers and a duplex LC fiber patch cable.
✅ High Performance: They offer excellent signal integrity and low bit error rates (BER) for their intended short-range applications.
✅ Lightweight and Flexible: The fiber cable is much thinner, lighter, and more flexible than a equivalent copper DAC cable, improving airflow and cable management in tight racks.

This type of cable is extremely common in modern data centers for:

✅ Connecting servers to top-of-rack (ToR) leaf switches.
✅ Interconnecting switches within the same rack or adjacent racks.
✅ High-performance computing (HPC) clusters.
✅ Storage Area Network (SAN) connections.

In summary: A 25Gbps 850nm Multimode SFP28 AOC is a high-speed, reliable, plug-and-play cable ideal for short-distance data center links between 5 and 100 meters, offering a great balance of performance, cost, and simplicity.
